Justin UpdiKe really enjoyed his first trip to the Virginia State Fair. After much work with his animals, Justin won Grand Champion Market Hog, Champion Novice Showmanship Market Hog and two first place awards in the swine competitions. His brother, Scott won grand Champion Fat Heifer. He also had two first place Angus heifers. In the cow-calf division, he won first place. Justin and Scott are the sons of Toni and Randall Updike of Washington. Though cabinetmaker Peter Kramer will open an exhibition Saturday celebrating his 20th anniversary, the blaster craftsman's mind is still looking toward the design of his next piece. His exhibit, "Recent Thoughts - New Furniture Design," will include a collection of some 50 pieces "that explore some original contemporary concepts of color, carving, line, assemblage and function and their effect on pieces of traditional design."
