A successful first year for Jen Cable and John Hallberg's Smokehouse Winery has led to their Second Annual Harvest Celebration, scheduled for this coming weekend—Oct. 14 and 15 from noon ’til 5 p.m. each day.
The event is a celebration indeed: of harvest time in Rappahannock, and of the spectacular honeywines, ciders, and other Old World beverages created by master vintner Hallberg.
At the Second Annual Harvest hosts Jen and John will serve their three berry melomel (a fruit flavored mead) the juniper berry metheglin (a spiced mead), their traditional mead made with metaphome honey, as well as the incomparable crabapple hard cider and a braggot (a malt-mead hybrid).
For an admission fee of $12 the mead aficionado (and the mead novice, too) will receive a wine glass, tastings, the choice of a glass of wine, refreshments, and entertainment.
Saturday celebrants will be entertained by "Lean & Mean," the progressive folk duo featuring Lucy Turner on violin and Warren Phinney on acoustic guitar, and Sunday's guests will hear the folk/rock dulcimer and guitar due, "W.O.O.D." (Weirded Out Old Dudes).
