Also continuing their abbreviated season this past week was the Junior Panther eighth grade team. The squad had two games this past week, traveling to Strasburg on Thursday, Oct. 5 and playing against Fauquier Country's Cedar Lee Middle School at home on Friday, Oct. 6. At Strasburg, the Junior Panthers played very well losing to a tough Strasburg team 28-13.
Hot-shooting guard Rachel Gall led the Rapp eighth graders with eight points. The home game with Cedar Lee was a bit tougher as the Junior Panthers lost 41-8. Anna Kreyling scored four points in the losing efforts. The Junior Panthers wrap up their season with two more games this week.
Cross Country
The RCHS Cross Country team was in action on Wednesday, Oct. 4 for their third home meet at the Bleu Rock Inn course. The Clarke Country Cross Country team came to the county with a very strong boys team. The Clarke boys' team won the contest 1745, but the Panthers had some standouts.
Phillip Thomas led the RCHS runners with a time of 20:28 which placed him fourth among the boys. Chris Graves also finished in the top ten with a 22:33 minute run that put him in eighth place overall. John Sheffield and Jason Gainer also finished for RCHS and broke 30 minutes. Alyssa Berry and Rachel Sharp led the girls team to a victory over the Clarke Lady Eagles. Alyssa ran the course in 25:07 and Rachel was less then a minute ’ hind at 20:03, as the girls fi -: ohed one and two among the female runners. Elaine Smith and Holly Long were fifth and sixth with times of 30:33 and 30:54.
