She was a dedicated homemaker and mother of daughter, Julie Ann, wife of Samuel H. Wilson of Hilo, Hawaii and two sons, Anthony Moore Whitfield and James Dickson Whitfield III of Charleston, S.C.
She is survived by seven grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Massimo of Alexandria, widow of Archibald Edward Massimo; niece Roselyn Marie Fannon Rothrock of Castleton and nephews, Chester William Fannon Jr. of Castleton, David Lee Fannon, formerly of Amissville and Kenneth Massimo of Centreville.
Mrs. Whitfield will be remembered for her willingness to always listen, ability to give good advice, her independent spirit, her strength through adversity, her tremendous sense of humor and her strong will to live.
Arrangements were handled through Memorial Mortuary in Hilo, Hawaii. Services will be held in Arlington National Cemetery on Dec. 20 at 2:45 p.m.
