Cheerleading
Varsity Cheerleading Coach, Kim Atkins, is in her fourth year as coach for Rappahannock. Coach Atkins played field hockey and softball at Culpeper High School, but never cheered. She began coaching here to help out in an emergency when the coach quit, but stayed with it ever since because she loves it.
This year's Varsity squad is the biggest ever, with nine freshmen, one sophomore, one junior, and three seniors. "The Varsity team this year, in addition to being the biggest, also has a lot of energy and enthusiasm because of the large number of younger members," said Coach Kim Atkins. "The squad has lots of ability, but their lack of experience will be challenging as they deal with the stress of competition."
The Varsity Cheerleading squad will compete as a team for district honors and individual recognition at the District Cheerjeading Competition in February, at the end of the Winter season. The competition consists of a threeminute routine. Half of the routine is cheering and stunts, and the other half is dance.
