"Because of their wooden construction, these sites are more vulnerable to damage. While the fire was of lbw-bum severity, it was hot enough to shatter some surface artifacts," Gasser said.
During the fire suppression efforts, fire fighters fought to protect standing structures, such as the Jenkins and Corbin cabins, he said.
Holiday Camp set
If you are between the ages of 9 and 13 years old and you love to spend the weekend with a bunch of fun people and have an incredibly fun tinie, then you should attend the first 4-H Junior Holiday Camp! This exciting camping weekend will include holiday decoration-making, a special holiday visitor, gift exchange and surprises, a snowman competition and more.
It will take place Dec. 8-10 at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center near Front Royal. For a registration form, please call or come by the Extension Office. This camp is open to all youth, not just presently enrolled 4-H members, but once you attend the camp, you will want to be join 4-H!
