An opposing interpretation is that this anecdote may have reported a laudable civics lesson in the voting process by parents who merely wanted to demonstrate to a future voter how to handle the tricky mechanics of casting a vote in that Florida county where a handoperated stylus, in principle, punches out a small paper circle in the ballot.
To imply that this fifth grade teacher might likely be a “fifth rate” teacher is just mean-spirited.
