observation, to adjust to country living; some never really do. One of the favorite topics of conversation among oldtimers down at the Comer Cafe is the dumb things newcomers fresh from the city do and say. it’d make a pretty funny column in the Piedmont Bugle! Some of them are as clueless as the travel reporter from the city newspaper who admired our “Far-Side cows” grazing in the field next to the four-lane. She apparently thought we’re all living in a cartoon out here!
Country living isn’t for everyone. Some of us who were bom here just never saw any good reason to leave. People who have been here awhile don’t expect cell service back in the hollows, and get along fine without it. We’ve learned, most of us, to trust our excellent volunteer fire and rescue companies, so we don’t mind not having a hospital in the county.
