1989, and has been involved in the Starfish program since its inception in the spring of 1997. Beginning with adult volunteers, who began working with selected youth from the elementary and middle school, the program evolved in its second year to include students mentoring students.
True to the plan of starting small and maintaining high standards, Starfish has continued to expand slowly, and gradually recruited and trained new mentors, while continuing to support and train its existing mentors.
