that election problems are a national issue. Pond is however, furious that anyone should even raise the issue of fairness in the balloting or vote-counting in Florida.
Recall that all three of the major networks initially called the Florida election for Gore based upon exit-polling. Normally their projections would have been correct. Who would have guessed that tens of thousands of ballots would be disqualified mainly from Democratically controlled precincts? The bumper sticker “I voted for Gore, I think!” aptly sums up, I surmise, the feelings of many Florida Democrats. If Pond thinks that nothing went wrong in Florida, what does she make of the ten times greater vote that Buchanan got in Democratic Palm Beach county, where the controversial butterfly ballot was used, as compared with other FL counties?
