Then we put the nets in the stream, picked up rocks and rubbed the bottom, then we danced in the sand to get the bugs to go in the net.

Then we scooped up the net carefully to see what was inside.

Here’s what we got: water pennies, mayflies, stoneflies, crayfish and hellgrammites.

Water pennies were small, round, gold and you couldn’t see legs.

Mayflies had three tails and gills on the sides that wiggled.

Stoneflies only had two tails and didn’t have gills on the sides. Crayfish looked like tiny lobsters. And hellgrammites were really big, bite you, have sharp spines on the sides and had pinch
