Most of my neighbors, oldtimers and newcomers alike, would agree that it’s important to our quality of life to* keep this county rural. Now1 we all might disagree about some of the particulars of what “rural” means, and it won’t be easy to keep it in any event. But to me rural mean# a working community where ordinary people can afford to* live. It means farmland being used for farming, not housing developments. It means wild places that aren’t domesticated within an inch of their lives. '»

For me, it’s quite enough to work the land, walk in the woods, watch the sea-* sons change, take care of chores, and enjoy the simple pleasures of family life and neighborly relations. I figure I’m getting to know my place in the world.
