with us to Washington as principal there.
Before the consolidation each school had their own basketball team and coach. The coach for Washington was Mr. D.C. Link and I’m sure a good one. Sperryville’s coach was Mrs. Mary Botts Quaintance (Snead). She was not only our coach, but an excellent teacher and good friend.
There was nothing she ever told us that wasn’t for our benefit. Her pay was never enough for what she did. She was really in it for the love of the job and we all loved her back.
Now, we had a new coach, Mr. Obbie Calhoun from Nokesville, and with his wife Dorothy brought unity to the team, and worked hard to make us champs.
We were in the Northern Virginia District. Some of the places we played were Lincoln, Aldie, Lovettsville, Styvesnat, Madison, Luray, Leesburg, Warrenton, and Marshall.
The boys and girls played the same teams, with the girls always playing first. We all traveled together on the school bus, because this was more fun. If there were any
