A bit of history, dating back to 1782, this was the year that Congress selected the bald eagle to be the emblem for the United states. This eagle is bald in name only, but owes its name to the American Colonists and since ancient times man has been identified with the eagle, because it has an impression of being powerful and majesty. It is interesting to note that the late Ben Franklin did not approve of the eagle as our National symbol, but wanted the turkey instead, because he thought the eagle had a bad moral characteristic.
