Pinewood Derby races set
Cub Scout Pack 123 will be holding their 2002 Pinewood Derby car races on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Washington fire hall. Races will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Scouts are reminded to check with their den leader for the check-in time for your den. The Pack Championship races are planned for 1:30 p.m. Former scouts and anyone interested in scouting are welcome to attend. For additional information call 987-8495, 937-5605 or 631-0949.
Drama classes forming
An eight-week drama class is currently forming. Categories include morning classes for those four to six years old, exploring movement, drama and art; an after-school drama class for 7-11 years old and an evening class for teens. Fruit school planned
The Madison-Rappahannock Area Fruit School sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Topics will include: Chemical Bloom Thinners; New Apple Root Stocks; Insect Management Strategies; 2001 Internal Worm Survey; Controlling Diseases in 2002; Food Quality Protection Update; Apogee on a Component of Fireblight Control; Spray Bulletin Update; Sprayer calibration and 2001 Orchard Survey. Steed to speak at Library
Sarah A. Steed, L.Ac., a Diplomate in Acupuncture, will speak at the Rappahannock Library on Friday, Feb. 1 on Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at 7 p.m. For more information call 540-219-9494.
Spring registrations accepted
The Rappahannock Soccer League is currently accepting 2002 spring soccer registrations. They are available at the Rappahannock Library and the Washington Post Office Kiosk.
Fees are $35 for first player and $20 for each additional family member. Some scholarships available. Volunteers are needed for coaching and an adult referee. Call the Registrar, Laura Dodd at 547-2968 for more information. The final day to register is Feb. 15. 2002.
Diabetes support group offered
A Rappahannock diabetes support group will be offered Jan. 30, Feb. 27 and March 27 by Cathy Tibbetts, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator at Trinity Church’s Parish Hall in Washington from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ms. Tibbetts is a registered nurse with a specialty in diabetes. She works as a diabetes nurse educator and volunteers with the Rappahannock Free Clinic.
Each month there will be a new topic that the group will discuss. The initial meeting on Jan. 30 will focus on “Diet, Strategies for Making Healthy Food Choices”, refreshments will be provided from recipes taken from ADA cookbooks.
