The birthday of civil rights pioneer Martin Luther King Jr. was marked in Rappahannock with a program at The Theatre Saturday. Women from Beulah Baptist Church in Culpeper performed gospel music. Rappahannock High 10th grader John Mallory shared his hopes for the future. The event was sponsored by the Julia C. Boddie Scholarship Committee.
Linda Butler was officially sworn in as Washington's post mistress last week by Robert Brooks, associate office coordinator for Northern Virginia.
Rappahannock County landowners placed 847 acres under conservation easement in 1991, bringing the county total to 5,575 acres protected according to the Piedmont Environmental Council. , Four percent of all private land in Rappahannock is now protected - about half the levels in Clarke and Fauquier counties.
