Your report about what I said at the July Board
of Supervisors' meeting somewhat confused the discussion about possible rural histone districts and I wish to clanfy the statements I was reported making.
As a Wakefield Distnct resident. I did express landowner interest in a Wakefield rural histone district, one purpose of which would be to “knit together" the 6.300 acres there already protected by voluntarily-donated conservation easements
As you reported, a rural histone distnct under Virginia law is a “label" that does not carry with it any restnctions upon landowners. But, it does offer distnct landowners potential benefits, including protection enhancement of property values, tax credits for building restoration repair, and greater capability to qualify for easement donations (which may generate additional tax benefits i.
Thank you for reporting John McCarthy's explanation that Virginia rural histone distnets are different than the Town of Washington’s histone district. established under different law.
