Council member Claudia Mitchell was the first to read her statement on the issue at the hearing. She said the photographs of the Hardiplank home in Manassas which the Worley’s had provided council members had illustrated for her the negative impact that such a home would have on the town. She said that this home, and the three virtually identical houses next to it were “what I fear the most."
Council member Jean Goodine felt similarly. She said the more research she did on the subject she had “more, rather then fewer misgivings.”
They were not alone. Council member Alice Butler said that while she hoped the Worley’s would become their neighbors, if they had presented other materials it would have been easier to approve the home. “They knew this was an historic area,” she said.
