That the council saw fit to reveal and rely on personal prejudices and poorly informed opinions to reach its decision is interesting, as the Town Council’s job is to decide these cases with due regard for existing law and ordinance, applying them fairly and equally to all citizens alike.
They did not. In this regard they are derelict of duty.
If the council finds the present law insufficient to the needs of the community, its job is to change the law, not break it.
It is hard to put a finger on just what it is that makes a town like Washington so visually charming.
I submit that in large part it is the evolution of our architectural heritage, reflecting the dynamic individualism and the evolving tastes of the community.
