Todd Brown, candidate for sheriff of Rappahannock County and himself a former deputy, pleaded guilty Tuesday to "willful neglect of duty" in not following the law in the way he obtained signatures on a petition.

Earlier in the month, Brown, 42, of Chester Gap was disqualified from the sheriffs race after discrepancies were found on three pages of his nine-page petition. That left him without the necessary 125 signatures required to run and prevents him from being on the Nov. 4 ballot.

It also leaves the sheriffs race between incumbent Larry Sherertz
