Propriety—respect for his position in the community, the simple fact that he ought not be detained inordinately should he be needed in his official capacity and appreciation for the fact he showed up in person, and that he is not a town employee—requires that the council suspend the rules and give him the floor. It was inexplicably rude not to do so, and he deserves an apology.
Second, the Town Council saw fit to deny, as a consequence of its actions, a building permit for a home by applying a higher standard for that home than it applies, or has ever applied to anyone else. This is the application by Sid Worley and his wife, Mary Catherine, to build a home in the town.
There was an objection to the use of composite “slate” materials for the roof, yet we have composite asphalt/fiberglass roofs everywhere, and even—what appears to be— one decaying and flaking asbestos roof.
