also felt that parking was an issue with this property. Konick, who formerly served as zoning administrator for the town and the county, said he was concerned about cars pulling up from the hill behind the new store into oncoming traffic. He felt that VDOT should be contacted about the issue.
Konick did not end his address there though. He said that of all the applications he has ever witnessed, “This is the sorriest presentation I have ever seen. It is so deficient. . . .”
Konick said, “There’s a perception in the county that it doesn’t matter what the law says or the ordinance says. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”
After much public debate council members established that a setback exception should be granted for the Goodine property.
They said that it met all the criteria for an exception and furthermore that such a location would be more in keeping with the positioning of adjacent structures. The setback exception was granted in a six to zero vote, with Jean Goodine abstaining.
