The broader question that emerged at the Rappahannock County Planning Commission hearing last Wednesday is whether the commission should be “proactive,” anticipating land and development issues, or “reactive” and wait for builders and developers to present requests and plans.
With growing concern about rising land values, the commission decided to map an aggressive set of fall hearings on growth issues, but backed away from the volatile subject of village zoning regulations.
Planning Commission Chairman Thomas F. Junk had added “discussion of Village Zoning Patterns” under “New Business” on the agenda for the commission’s Aug. 18 meeting, after County Administrator John McCarthy had started vacation.
