Our children go back to school next week, actually one of the most joyous events that happens in a child's life. Some of them won’t agree now, but trust us; there will come a time when they will yearn to swing their books over their shoulder and head for a place where the world is new and undiscovered. Within those school doors, like some Disney magic show, is every wonder of the world, all we have to do is reach out and grab one.
As people get older, to envy the fun of school is normal, like yearning for the circus or a good snowball fight. We have a remedy for this yearning. Get involved.
Here are some things each of us can do:
Back the school’s $4 million plan for a new auxiliary gym, elementary school rooms and the running track.
Come to the big public hearing on Sept. 8 at the high school.
Get behind Headwaters, the educational foundation, with money or as a volunteer
Boost the band, an athletic team or the music program.
Work in the schools as a volunteer.
Substitute teach.
Run for the school board.
If each of us does one of these things, the youthful surge of fall will seem eternal, and the schools and students all would benefit.
