The proposed lighting ordinance solely covers future lighting plans on commercial businesses in Rappahannock County. It does not cover residential lighting and has little immediate impact since there are few areas of the county zoned for commercial development. The lighting plans of the bank and the Shell station are legally protected as they were approved before the ordinance.

The lighting ordinance has been debated for some five years and its supporters think it is important to pass to have rules laid down for businesses in the future that come to the county.
