Inner fire

Firefighters from Sperryville, Washington, Castleton, and Salem all worked together to extinguish this structure fire at the home of Clifford Dennis on Saturday evening, December 17. The fire started in a brick chimney in a little used part of the house. The Dennis’ had started a fire there because o' their many house guests, in town to celebrate Dennis’ 90th birthday. The fire spread from the chimney to the attic, and from there to a first floor room. None of Mr. Dennis's guests were injured, as they all left the house at the outset of the flames under the orders of dispatcher Melony Smith. The firefighters pictured are removing the outer walls of the house to get at the fire inside.
