Spread a little cheer
during this time of year

Each year residents of Rappahannock County come together to help those fellow residents less fortunate.
There are a number of groups and organizations that really rise to the occasion especially during the Christmas season.
Department of Social Services
As it does every year the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services is continuing its 20th annual tradition of collecting food and monetary donations to assist families in need during the holiday season.
Mrs. Davis, the office manager of the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services, is extra busy this time of the year collecting food and monetary donations for 60 needy families in Rappahannock County. They are supplying food gift baskets through Food Lion.
“Adopt a Family” is another program that has proven to be very successful over the years. Families in need are required to fill out an application and then Social Services puts them up for adoption. Those who choose to adopt a family will not be able to leam the identity of the family but they will learn the family composition, ages and sizes of clothing needed.
Elementary School Food Drive
Rappahannock County Elementary School sponsors a Christmas Food Basket Drive collecting food and other needed items All donations will be divided and distributed to families in Rappahannock County.
Candace Lamma, elementary school counselor, printed a list by grade of what each school child from kindergarten through seventh grade, is being asked to bring to help with the drive. Some of the items were: peanut butter, flour, jelly, first aid supplies, stocking stuffier items, canned vegetables, and toothbrushes.
“We have been very successful in the past and I am sure that this year you will again exhibit your generous and kind nature, “ wrote Ms. Lamma in a statement accompanying the list of items given to each student.
Shop with a Deputy Program
They started out early this past Saturday morning, as children from Rappahannock and Warren Counties were paired with officers for the 10th. Annual “Shop with a Deputy” program.
Sponsored by the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office, some 40 children and officers headed to K-Mart in Front Royal for a morning of shopping
