County children, whose families have little or no funds, were paired with uniformed officers who helped them with their purchases. Each child could purchase $100 worth of merchandise for themselves or their families.
After shopping, the children ate breakfast with the officers and visited with Santa. Meanwhile some volunteers wrapped their packages. Not only did the children get some Christmas presents, but each received a generous food basket for their families complete with a hefty turkey.

Rappahannock National Bank
In addition to employees making financial contributions and volunteering much of their personal time to various community activities and to help non-profit organizations, the bank is in their third year of promoting the Rappahannock National Bank Angel TVee.
Working with the Department of Social Services, several Rappahannock County families are identified who are in need.
The Angel Tree is decorated with angels bearing those identified items of clothing, housewares, gift certificates, tools, toys and games.
The angels are selected by employees, customers and others in the community.
Additional angels for staple items, such as gloves, hats and scarves are included. Those items find their way to the Loan Closet at Social Services.
Church communities
Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville will hold its annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service from 7-8 p.m. on Dec. 24. Christmas carol hymns sung by the congregation, a children’s sermon, special music and Christmas sermon message are highlights of the worship service. A special offering will be taken and given at Christmastime to families with children. “Our church has a special glow on Christmas Eve, as welljt should,” said Rev. Jon Heddleston. “The sanctuary is beautiful, the hymns rousing—and for more than a decade the offering has gone directly to local families in need. Pastor John Burke of Gid Brown Bible Baptist Church in Washington noted its annual holiday help for needy families. Church members fixed Christmas baskets for the shut-ins in the community.
Washington Baptist Church,“The Sojourners” for Christ Sunday School Class fixed and delivered 21 Christmas baskets to shut-ins from their church and the community.
Willis Chapel United Methodist Church started their Christmas projects in the summer when children decorated quart jars with a slot in the lids to make banks. This works great for a “Christmas in July” Bible School project. A table is decorated at the front of the church holding all the decorated jars. At the end of the service the people come up and get
