A memorial service in which the body is not present may be conducted instead of, or in addition to, a funeral. A memorial service is a particularly good option for those who choose to remember and honor the deceased in an area other than where he or she was buried. For instance, the deceased may be buned in the area where he or she grew up. While a funeral is timed to coincide with the timely disposition of the body, a memorial service may be held at any time of the participant's choosing. Similarly, the form of a memorial service is open to suggestion.
