require that the sofas and chairs are a maximum of 8 feet apart, no matter how large the room is, or you are not pleasantly “grouped".
If the paper plan looks good to you, it is VERY wise to take it to the next step to validate your plan.
Many people have difficulty visualizing the finished product, and I have found that even with a trained eye this next step works well in avoiding any mistakes.
Empty your room, if possible, or work with only the pieces you want to keep or are similar to what you want to replace them with.
Then use newspaper taped together or a big roll of brown paper to make a life size plan. Lay out your future “furniture" made out of newspaper on the floor, check out your traffic patterns, conversational areas, etc.
What looks good on a sheet of paper drawn to scale is now translated more realistically this way, and is a good reality check when you are planning on making any purchases.
