Museum of the
American Indian
Grades two-four traveled to’ Washington, D.C., on Nov. 14 to visit the National Museum of the American Indian. The group toured the museum, focusing on the art of storytelling, which is found in virtually all American Indian tribal traditions. The students viewed yam artwork, dolls, animal figures, clothing, and a couple of mini-movies which gave good examples of the use and versatility of storytelling.
Tfeacher Liz Shaw hopes to take her students back to Washington, D.C., to visit the African Art Museum in January, when the class will be studying different creation stories and cultures of Africa. This trip will precede a humanitarian trip one of her students will be taking with his mother to Senegal in March.
