There was the “Year of the Civil War Diaries.” While shopping at several bookstores, I round journals written fay soldiers (on both sides), their wives and mothers and bought them for my daughter. She was an American history major, and I wanted to add a personal aspect of The Great Inronvenience to her academic studies. I’m not talking about die purchase of a couple of books; I am talking about numbers that would fill a small niche in the public library. I couldn’t make up my mind which to buy. Who would have thought there would have been so many choices in that genre?

the Blues Singers and IJr^ Musicians.'’ Framed photographs of jazz musical artists and coffee table books on blues music crowded the space underneath the Christmas tree for my music-loving offspring who kwed to visit New Orleans and Memphis for the soul of | food and music.
