straight service points to give the Panthers the lead once again. The Blue Devils kept clawing back, but when Chelsea Spivey’s serve hit out of bounds, the Lady Panthers celebrated a 25-23 win to force the tiebreaker.
In the tiebreaker, Rappahannock County simply ran out of gas.
The Lady Panthers went up 1-0 on a kill by Hutcheson, but from there on out, were never really competitive in the fifth game as Gate City put together an 11-2 run to build an 11-3 lead. Moments later, the Blue Devils bench sprung to their feet and stormed the court, as they walked away with a 15-7 win in game five.
“We played our hearts out," senior Noel Johns said. “We left everything we had out on that court."
Elena Kritter led Rappahannock County with 26 kills, while her sister Danica W a team-high 19 service points and 21 assists. Hutcheson had nine kills to go along with five blocks.
Jennifer Lewis paced Gate City with 19 kills and 21 digs. On Saturday, the Blue Devils lost the state championship in five-sets to Rappahannock County foe Strasburg.
“If we played Gate City 50 times, we’d each win 25 times," Coach Wilde said. “We are two equal teams. They just got the better of us tonight."
