directors for nonprofit organizations. The first workshop, led by Bill Dietel and Alaina Cugnon, was directed to keeping the board focused and motivated. Bill Dietel for over 40 years has been a leader in managing philanthropic organizations, including the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Alaina Cugnon is a business consultant with 25 years experience in helping motivate large firms and other organizations in employee development, productivity, and retention.
A second workshop was dedicated to learning how to bring sharp financial thinking and planning to one’s board and was led by Cliff Miller (a successful local farmer who has chaired the Richmond Ballet and other organizations and who serves on the boards of a number of Rappahannock non-profit groups) and Monica Worth (a public relations firm executive who works with federal government agencies, the Congress, the media, and communities to shape public perceptions of significant issues).
A third workshop directed its attention to the methods and techniques used by successful boards—such as developing a good set of by-laws, meeting techniques, and successful planning to keep nonprofit groups humming year after year.
