I enjoyed Kevin Allen’s article
about paying real estate taxes but his perspective didn’t go back far enough. My taxes have almost doubled (90 percent) since purchasing a home in Rappahannock ip 2002. The 15 percent per year average increase over five years is a much better indicator of what is happening to the budget than the 6 percent increase he described in the article.
I know the reassessment done two years ago was supposed to be revenue neutral but I can’t help but think there was some attitude toward spending some of that “new” money.
Do we get a new assessment to reflect the 15 percent drop in property values since the boom has bust?
