Ella Miller prefers a challenge, both in the classroom and on the basketball court.
So three years ago, when the Washington resident got the opportunity to do both, she leaped at the chance.
As a freshman, she enlisted at the Highland School in Warrenton, a private school known for it’s rigorous academic programs and top-notch sports teams.
“Highland offered things that I couldn’t get at my other school,’’ Miller said. “We’ve got great academic programs and we get to play against some of the best players in the country at Highland. It’s challenging, but at the same time, it’s also rewarding.”
Miller found immediate success on the hardwood at Highland.
Midway through her freshman year, she became the Hawks’ starting shooting guard and hasn’t relinquished her spot yet.
She helped the Hawks reach the state finals as a freshman and averaged a team-best 20 points per gyme to earn all-state honors in the ', state tournament.
