ihe coalition proposes that Virginia dedicate $100 million annually for these programs, to be financed by l/10th of one cent of the existing state sales tax. Virginia farmers would match those state dollars with an additional $646 million as their share of the partnership costs.
The agriculture-conservation coalition's plan to fully fund Virginia’s cost-share partnership program is worthy of support from Governor Kaine and the legislature. It demonstrates that Virginia can have healthy farms and healthy rivers if we work together and if the Commonwealth adequately funds the programs science and experience have shown will produce success.
