Rivers* region located outside the Bay watershed. By most measures, progress is being made.
But as scientists have been telling us for a long time, the problems of Virginia rivers and the Bay are many, including population growth, development pressures, and runoff from our lands. There is no one magic bullet that will fix them all.
Recently, Virginia has authorized more than a halfbillion dollars toward upgrading sewage treatment plants to reduce nitrogen pollution. Once those upgrades are completed, Virginia rivers and the Bay will begin to see immediate water quality improvements.
