Single Car Collision

A single car collision occurred Saturday, July 31 at 6:15 p.m. on Route 729 three miles south of Ben Venue. According to Trooper J. B. Willis, a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda operated by Jamie S. Meades was a total loss after it careened down the road, ran up an embankment, turned over, and landed in an upright position. Meades was attempting to pass another vehicle going the same direction when he lost control of the car and ran off the left of the highway. The car then veered back across the road, struck three trees and overturned. The vehicle was owned by Avis Rental Cars. Brueton Franklin (Bunny Settle) a passenger in the vehicle received a lacerated right arm. William Magee, another passenger, and Meades, the driver, were not injured.
