If germination and purity requirements are met, the VCIA will issue certification tags upon request. An official certification tag must be attached to each bag sold as certified seed. Since very few farmers have adequate seed cleaning and processing equipment, most of the certified seed now being grown in this state is grown under contract for seedsmen. When a farmer produces certified seed on a contract basis, his responsibility ends with the harvesting and delivery of the seed.
