Based on decimals, the metric system is certainly a more accurate and scientific approach to weights and measures, but the conversion process would be a tremendous and costly undertaking. Before a complete and successful conversion to the new system could be made, a thorough educational program would be needed -- a program which should begin in elementary schools to teach children the basics of the metric system.
