FRUIT CROP PROSPECTS GOOD
During August the Virginia Homemaker wil^find at her food store a fine selection of Virginia grown peaches. Among the newer peach varieties is the high quality, freestone, yellow flesh Sunhigh which is now being harvested. About mid-August the principle peach areas of Virginia will be harvesting the old standby, Elberta, that will make up about 35% of Virginia’s production this year. The prospects for a quality of apples from Virginia continue good as growers get into the harvest of the summer v a r ie t ie s--Williams Early Red and Rambo. In spite of moisture shortage in some areas, the apples are sizing well and growers look forward to the harvest of a few more apples than last year.
