Tommy Eastham reports hav ing made 48 bushels orchard grass seed per acre! Also seed tested highest yet at Car penters - 94% purity. Tommy used 500 lbs 5-10-10 plus 100 lbs XL (?) per acre on his orchard grass.
WORK BRIEFS July work was as varied in color and pattern as Grandma’s quilt. Orchard work - mite control and demonstration on use of plastic and nylon tape for tieing up branches loaded heavily with fruit. Continuation of handcraft visits: of farm families not gainfully employed becoming producers, checking market outlets and acceptability of crafts produced. Helping with 4-H picnic, plan ning 4-H camp, planning midyear Advisory Board meeting, discussing office space additions.
Also it now appears we will have 350-400 cows enrolled in Commercial BCIA in '66. Final plans were made - what, where, who, why Corn Field Day. Farm records, youth programs, home water supply, irrigation nursery plots, ornamental horticulture. Organized heifer Bangs vaccinations - 19 farms, 163head Met with Soil Conservation District Supervisors, ASC County Committee, discussed and explained uses of Pesticide Handbooks with merchants, insect control - grass hoppers, etc. etc.! Wound up tired but somewhat thrilled to see a quotation written last December used in a national publication and,to get a call next day requesting additional Useage in July!
