Potomac Edison and its associated companies in the Allegheny Power System ranked fourth in the top 100 electric utilities in the country last year in efficient use of fuel to generate electricity.
‘‘This benefits our cutomers,” according to PE executive vice president and general manager J. M. McCardell, “because our efficient operation in the production of electricity contributes to keeping our rates generally lower than many other ^utilities in the country, particularly those on the East Coast.”
The rating was made by a utility industry publication, Electric Light and Power, which compared the largest electric utilities in the country on their fuel efficiency. Allegheny Power System, of which Potomac Edison is a part, ranked No. 4 last year, up from a ranking of No. 8 in 1975.
