The Northern Virginia Firefighter’s Association, in cooperation with the Winchester City Fire Departments and fire service training, Department of Education, will undergo a state-wide fire training school in general firemanship and advanced fire training. The fire training school will begin on Saturday, September 10 at the James Wood High School and the Winchester fire training grounds. Classes will be from 8:45 a.m. until 5 p.m. The course is financed with state funds available through the division of vocational education.
Material presented will be from the 30-hour course in general firemanship and advanced fire training, developed by fire service training. Hours successfully completed will be credited to each firefighter’s permanent training record maintained by fire service training.
Subjects to be covered during the course under general firemanship are: ladders, protective clothing & breathing apparatus, fire stream practices, small tools & forcible entry, ventilation, search & rescue, electrical hazards and structural fires.
Advanced subjects to be covered are: building construction, fire ground strategy & tactics, water supply, flammable liquids-LP gas hazards, organization & operations & firefighter safety.
