Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly, preparing to begin its fifth year or operation on September 9, has announced a record enrollment for the coming year, new programs and courses of study, and the appointment of several new teachers to the school faculty.
According to Wakefield’s administrator, William Lynn, enrollment at the school will exceed 160 students in Kindergarten through the newly added Grade 9, with students in attendance from Rappahannock, Fauquier, Frederick, and Shenandoah Counties.
New courses of study added to the curriculum for 1977-78 include Biology, Logic, Economics, Greek, fourth year Latin, and second year Algebra. A new Biology Laboratory hs been installed, and the school’s general science department reorganized around SAPA, a program developed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science instruction in the elementary grades. The formation of a school band and orchestra under the direction of Keneth Shook, band director at Randolph-Macon Academy, has also been announced.
Joining the school’s faculty are Jonathan Bailey-St. John, Mrs. Suzanne Shook, Mrs. Delores Dalton, Mrs. Suzanne Blount, Mr. Stephen Cameron, Edward McAuley, and Mrs. Betty Anne Bardwell. Jonathan Bailey-St. John, the new Greek and Latin instructor, will be coming to Wakefield from St. Edward’s School in Oxford, England. Bailey-St. John, a native of Sussex, England, has a M. A.
