“I’ll check into that,” Mrs. Bear responded. Donna Fisher stated that something should be said as to the importance of the teacher for the new fifth-sixth combination class.
Noted For Techniques
The students in this special class are under-achievers, working below their ability levels, according to Bloomer. Knowing the strengths of the teachers at the elementary school, Mrs. Baines was assigned to take this class, said Bloomer, because she is “noted for motivational techniques.”
After stating that he too had opposed Mrs. Baines’ reassignment, Newbill Miller said that Bloomer had taken tremendous pressure from the School Board and the community to rescind the action. “The man obviously isn't going to change...I would hope that Rappahannock County would put that behind them...I think it’s time for the community to concede and get along with the job of educating children.”
Maybelle Gilkey commented that the reassignment was actually a compliment for Mrs. Baines and her abilities as a teacher.
"I think she’s an excellent teacher,” agreed Judy Kenyon, "and will do well wherever she’s placed.”
“The decision on the reassignment was not an easy decision to make," said Bloomer, adding that he would still follow the same course if he had it to do all over again. “I do not intend to be wishy-washy,” he added.
