new policy of assigning teachers on the basis of what was best for the school system rather than on personal preferences. In the past, assignments in county schools had been made on the principal that “rank has its privileges,” she maintained, noting that first grade positions had been usually left to first year teachers after the teachers who had been in Rappahannock schools the longest had been assigned to the positions they wanted.
Is Mrs. Baines’ reassignment to a fifth-sixth combination a “one shot attempt to set this kind of standard in teacher placement or will this be a continued effort?” asked Mrs. Kilpatrick.
If assignments are made on the basis of individual preferences rather than on the good of the system, “then we’re in trouble,” Bloomer responded. He added that he hoped the two would correspond.
“My policy is an administrative team approach,” Bloomer continued. “If I have no confidence from my staff, then my recommendation would be that they go or I go.”

The Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation will receive bids for 48 construction and repair projects on Tuesday, September 20, in Richmond. Included on the list is the realignment and safety improvements to Route 231 at the intersection with Secondary Route 707 at Rivercombs Corner in Rappahannock County.
