NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC OF PROPOSED RATE INCREASE OF CENTRAL TELEPHONE COMPANY OF VIRGINIA.
Notice is hereby given that on June 15, 1977, Central Telephone Company of Virginia filed with the State Corporation Commission of Virginia an application requesting a $4,665,945 permanent increase in its rates and charges for telephone service. The Commission has suspended the effective date of the proposed rate changes and has scheduled a public hearing on the application in its Courtroom in the Blanton Building, Richmond, Virginia, commencing at 10:00 A.M. on October 19, 1977.
Also, on June 15, 1977, an application for an increase in rates was filed by Southern Telephone Company, a whollyowned subsidiary of Central, asking for approval of an Increase in rates to give it additional annual revenues of $262,681. Southern Telephone's proposed increase in rates will be considered in this case. Separate notice will be given to Southern's customers.
Earlier, Central was authorized to place into effect a temporary surcharge of 9.60 percent on all rates for intrastate telephone service except toll service, WATS service, private line service, and coin telephone service. Central Telephone now proposes to withdraw the 9.60 percent surcharge, which was designed to produce additional revenues of $2,359,806, and to then place into effect its permanent rates to produce additional revenues of $4,666,945. Central's application and proposed schedule of rates and charges may be reviewed in the Clerk's Office of the Commission or at any office of the Company where bills may be paid.
On or before August 22, 1977, the Company will file with the Clerk of the Commission ten (10) copies of the prepared testimony and exhibits of each witness it intends to present in direct testimony in support of Company's application. Copies of all such testimony and exhibits will be available for review on and after August 22, 1977, in the Clerk's Office of the Commission or at any
