The government-operated generating plants of the Tennessee Valley Authority ranked 13th in 1976. More than 98 percent of the electricity produced for Potomac Edison customers comes from coal.
‘Although the cost of every pound of coal has increased tremendously since 1971,” he continued, “our efficient use of that fuel has been a factor in limiting the increase in our electric rates to a level lower than many other utilities. Despite increasingly stringent environmental regulations which cause costly reductions in efficiency, we have maintained a high position relative to other utilities in fuel efficiency.”
“Nationally,” he added, “the average cost of a kilowatthour of electricity to residential customers of investor-owned utilities in 1976 was 3.83 cents. The average cost to Potomac Edison’s residential customers was 3.40 cents.”
